“Look out!”

Before you knew it, you were flying around with the wind in your hair. A strong arm wrapped around your torso as you looked down to see how close you had just come to death. A 15-meter titan had almost caught you, if it were for your beloved squad leader, Levi, who was now throwing you to the ground safe away from the swarm of titans.

“You dumbass. You need to pay more attention. What if I wasn’t there? You would have been killed.”

“Ow,” you said as you rubbed your sore bottom. “Yeah well, you were there, so I don’t have to think about it now. Plus you’ll always be there Heichou.” You stood up and patted his head, since you were slightly taller than him. “I trust you with my life.”

Levi scowled at you before quickly swatting at your hand and walking away. You couldn’t help up snicker at how seriously he takes himself.

“Let’s just get this over with. I have a lot of paperwork to do after this. And you still have a lot of cleaning to do when we get back.”

Your eyes widened. “What? Why?! I finished all my chores before we came out here!”

“It’s payback. For me saving your sorry ass. Now come on.” He flew away before you could even protest his unfair punishment. You groaned and quickly followed your corporal into battle.

~~~
“Ahhhhh~ Finally, I’m done!” You sat in the lunch hall and dropped your head to the table, making a loud thud. A warm hand patted your back in a comforting way.
“Cheer up (first). It’s not like he made you clean the horse stalls all day.”
You looked up at a green eyed boy you called your friend. “That may be so Eren, but it’s still not fair! He made me clean because he saved me! Even though I’ve saved him plenty of times!”
He took a seat beside you. “Well at least you got to go out into battle. I was stuck here cleaning for the past 2 days! Not only that but I also had to deal with Hanji all by myself today...” He slumped onto the table.
“Oh jeez that’s rough... Maybe I did have it better today...”
“Oh Ereeeeeeen~ I’ve come to get yoooooou~!”
“Speak of the devil...”
“Oh no... Please no, not again...”
A giddy Hanji entered the room followed by an obviously annoyed Levi.
“Eren, I just thought of some new experiments to try! Isn’t that great?! So hurry up and finish your food so we can get started! I couldn’t help but tell Levi all about them ‘cause I was so excited!” She tried to put her arm around Levi’s neck but he quickly dodged the psychotic scientist act of affection.
“(first) please, save me,” Eren whispered in your ear.
“(last) you didn’t clean my office properly. You’d better get it right this time before I finish eating. Or I’ll make you clean it again.”
“Sorry Eren. I’m in a bind too...”
Both you and Eren tried to finish your meal as slowly as possible to delay the hell that was coming your way. But soon, you found yourself in Levi’s office, cleaning the already spotless room again.
“You missed a spot brat.” You turned around to find the short man standing in the doorway with his usual scowl plastered on his face. “How many times am I going to have to make you clean my office (last),” he said as he walked over to his desk and sat down.
“S-sorry sir...”
“Levi. Call me Levi. But only when we’re alone.”
“Finally~  I’ve known you for more than 5 years! How many times did I have to save you for you to finally let me call you by your first name Levi~” You poked his cheek playfully as you said his name. This only earned you a death stare as he grabbed your hand tightly.
“Do you want me to kill you (first)?”
“N-no sir...” You swiftly pulled your hand out of his grasped and backed away slightly.
“Just because you’re not a cadet anymore doesn’t mean you can disrespect me. I’m still your corporal. So don’t get cocky brat.”
“Tch if anyone here is a brat it’d be you,” you whisper under your breath.
“What was that?”
“Oh n-n-n-nothing sir! Ehehehe...” You laughed nervously as you scratched the back of your head. Levi eyed you suspiciously before starting his paperwork.
“You can leave now.”
“I can? You don’t want me to do anymore cleaning?”
“No. It’s not like you were any good at it in the first place.”
Your eye twitched at his remark. Levi didn’t even have to look up to see how much he irked you, and that brought him nothing but joy. He smirked.
“Well then,” you crossed your arms, “I hope this mean you aren’t gonna make me clean anymore.”
“Of course not. Everyone should take part in the wonderful sport that is cleaning.”
“Levi... D-did you just call cleaning... A sport...?”
Finally he looked up, with a serious expression on his face. “Of course I did. Cleaning is a sport. Or at least it should be. And it would be too if the fools who decided these kinds of things could get their heads out of their asses and make it official.”
“This guy’s a nut-job... How the hell is cleaning a sport,” you thought to yourself.
“O-okay then... Well I’ll be taking my leave. See you later Levi Heichou.”
Taking his silence as a farewell, you left, cleaning supplies in hand. You were walking down the hall quietly when-
“Oh (first)~!”
You turned back to match the voice to a face you knew very well.
“Hanji what are you doing here? I thought you were torturing Eren?”
Experimenting! Not torturing (first)! And I was getting more supplies for my experiments. Oh, I see you’ve been with shortie recently, haven’t you.” She said elbowing you in the side while raising her eyebrows suggestively. “Did you have fun?”
You couldn’t help but blush slightly. “Hanji I have no clue what you’re talking about. And I keep telling you, I don’t like Levi.”
“Oh, Levi is it? Since when were you two on a first-name basis?”
You walked away before she could get to you anymore. “A-anyways, I was just cleaning his office. That’s all. Now if you excuse me, I’ve got some more work to do.”
“Hehehe, that kid. She’s really gotta stop lying to herself...”
~~~

“Levi Heichooooouu~!”

A voice called from behind, but he only quickened his pace.

“Heichou! Wait up!”

“Don’t look back and maybe she’ll go away. She can’t be that dense, right?”

“Heichou!”

At this point, Levi was practically sprinting.

“Heichou!” A firm hand grasped Levi’s shoulder. It was you, and you were panting heavily, bent over with your hands on your knees. “He-He-Heichou... W-why didn’t... You... Stop,” you questioned as you gasped for air.

“I didn’t hear you.”

“You... You liar...” You stood up straight now that you had gained your breath back. “Anyways, I heard you were going into town, so I though I’d come with you!”

“No.”

“B-b-but! How come?!”

“Because I don’t want to have to take care of a little brat like you.”

“I’m not a brat! Levi, pleeeeeeease~? I promise you won’t even notice I’m here!”

He pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger. “Ugh. Fine. But you had better stay quiet. I don’t want to draw any attention.”

“Alright! Okay so let’s go!” You ran out past the gates, leaving Levi in the wind.

“God. What have I done...”

~~~
“Levi! Levi! Look at this meat! You don’t see meat like this in this day and age!” You dragged your beloved Levi close behind you as you maneuvered through the crowded market streets.
“Gawking over food like this... What are you, Sasha? And let go of my jacket, you’re going to wrinkle it.” He snatched his arm away from you, making you puffed your cheeks out.
“Well now... What do we have here,” an unfamiliar voice said from behind the both of you. You turned around to a small group of 4 men.
“Hello there pretty lady. I see your little boyfriend isn’t being very nice to you. Why don’t we take you around and show you a good time.” One of the men put his hand on your shoulder.
“I’m fine thank you. And he’s not my boyfriend...”
“Well that’s great! I guess that means Grumpy here won’t mind us taking you for ourselves at all,” he said as he crept his arm all the way around to your other shoulder.
“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m having enough fun as it is.” You pinch his hand with your thumb and index finger as your pulled his arm off of you.
“Oh don’t be like that! We just wanna have some fun with you is all!” Two of the men grabbed each of your wrists.
“I said no. Now let go.”
“Come on baby. We just wanna play~”
Levi had seen enough. Once again his strong arms snaked around your waist, pulling you out of their hands and into his protective grasp.
“She’s mine. Now get lost before I teach you what happens when you try to steal other people’s property,” Levi said with an ice cold stare that could freeze over hell itself.
“Eek. Come on guys, let’s go before the midget gets angry.” And with that they were gone.
“Jeez Levi. You didn’t need to get so-” With all the commotion, you hadn’t realized how close you were to Levi. When you looked back his face was inches from yours, making you blush. You could feel his breath on your neck, and that gave you goosebumps.
“So what?”
“N-n-nothing...” You squirmed out of his toned arms. “Th-thanks for that...”
“Tch whatever. I thought you said I wouldn’t even notice you were here.”
“Ehehehe... Well, aren’t you glad I came along anyways?!” You shone a bright, earnest smile.
“Stall duty. For a week.”
“But Levi~!!”
“Do you want more work?”
“This sucks~” You whaled as you fake cried.
“Two weeks then.”
“Aw fuck me...”
He smirked.
~~~

(Some music to get you in your feels: www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3ND3v… No tears guys.)

Yet another battle was underway. Half the team had already been wiped out and there were still many titans left to eradicate. You whipped through the air slaying titan after titan, making your way to the man who secretly held your heart.

“Levi. Please, please be okay.”

Soon said man was in you line of sight, battling 3 titans at once, nothing he couldn’t handle. 1 down, 2 down, all he needed was to take out this last one and we could all go home. You could eat that meat you had recently bought, read that book Armin had lent you, even make that dress you’d been putting off for a while. Best of all, you could finally tell Levi how you really felt about him.

But life was cruel. Unfair. Out of nowhere, an Abnormal appeared out of the trees and lunged at Levi while he was in mid-attack. You knew he wouldn’t be able to dodge that. He may have been skilled, but he wasn’t perfect.

You increased the speed of your 3D gear and swiftly kicked him out of the way of the disturbing titan. But now you were in the way. Before Levi could do anything, you were swatted by the titan and sent flying through the forest into a tree. Levi quickly disposed of the two nuisances and came to your aid.

“(first). (first)! Are you alright (first)?” He held your fragile figure in his arms. “What were you thinking? Why would you do something so stupid?!”

“Because... I wanted to save you of course.” You coughed up blood. “People need you, Levi, not me.”

“And what makes you think no one needs you?”

“Because you’re strong and dependable. You give humanity hope. You help us believe that we can become great like you so we can protect the ones we love.” Through your pain, you smiled. “And I’d gladly give my life up for someone like you.”

“I never asked you to rescue me. You should have just let me die. If I get attacked it’s my own fault. You shouldn’t have to take responsibility for my mistakes.”

You simply shook your head. “I’d rather die and leave you behind, than have you die and leave me here by myself. Call me selfish but I can’t help it.” You started to choke up. “So please... Don’t be sad when I’m gone... And please... Just promise me... Promise me you won’t forget me Levi.”

“(first). I’m not going to forget you, because I’m not going to let you die, not like this. Not because of me.” He caressed your cheek.

“Levi, it’s not your fault. It was my decision.” Once again you smiled brightly, tears starting to form in your eyes. “Ah... I really didn’t want to cry... I don’t want you to remember me like this,” you sniffled, covering your eyes with your sleeve. “When you remember me, don’t think of something sad like this, okay? Be happy when you think of me... And... And don’t tell everyone I cried at my funeral.”

“(first) I’m gonna take you back. We’ll be home soon. So just hold on a little longer.”

“I really wish I could Levi. I really do. I just want to go home...” You touched his cheek with your blood red hand. “But if that meant going home without you, then I never wanna go home.” You coughed up more blood and Levi caught your hand, holding you closer to his chest. “Ahhh this sucks~ In the end I still couldn’t say it...”

“Stay quiet (first). You’ve lost a lot of blood already.” His grip on your hand tightened.

You snickered at him like you always do.

“Oh Levi...”

“Tell me when we get back, okay? Please, just rest.”

“Levi I think we both know that isn’t going to happen... Just... Shut up and let me tell you.”

“(first). Don’t say it.”

“Levi... I...”

A final tear streamed down your face as your hand slipped out of Levi’s grasp.

Levi held your limp body tight and gritted his teeth.

“I love you too, (first).”

~~~
(A/N: It’s now the future/present day hundreds of years after the extinction of the titans. It was so terrible and so long ago that everyone had forgotten about them. So now society is as it is today.)
For the first time in what felt like forever, you had the day off from work. Normally, you’d have to wake up at 6 am, drive through rush hour, and just pray you’d get to work on time. Today, however, was different. You could stay home and laze around all day.
But of course, life was cruel. You just had to get your tea for the day. Ever since you were a child you hated it, but once you became an adult you started liking it, and at this point you couldn’t go a day without it. So off you went to Hanji’s Diner.
“(first)! There you are! I was wondering what happened to you since you didn’t come in this morning.”
“Yeah I have the day off. Hanji is it always this crowded this late in the morning?” You looked around to see the place was almost entirely full. You took a seat at a tiny, 2-person booth in the corner. “Well I’ll have my usual then.”
“You got it!”
A few minutes had gone by and the diner had only become more full. That’s when you met him.
“Hey (first),” Hanji called to you, “It’s kinda packed in here so do you mind if this fine short gentleman here could sit with you until more tables open up?” You looked up to see a handsome, raven haired man staring down at you. Had it not been for his next remark, you would have probably been staring into those beautiful grey eyes all day.
“Well brat?”
Your eye twitched, and he smirked.
“Yeah sure... Just as long as shortie doesn’t start having a tantrum.”
“What was that?”
“Aaaaaaaalrighy then~” Hanji shoved the grumpy man into the seat across from you in a haste. “Well (first) I’ll be back soon with your tea! It’ll be on the house so try not to kill him. He tips very well!” Hanji ran back behind the counter before you could protest.
“So you like tea?”
“Y-yeah... I never liked it as a kid, but one day I drank it and now I just can’t stop. I come here everyday before work.”
“Everyday, huh? Then why haven’t I ever seen you in here?”
“Well usually I come in really early in the morning, but today I have a day off.”
“That so... What do you do for a living?”
“I’m an accountant... What’s with all the questions..?”
“No reason really.” Just then, Hanji had come back with two tea cups, one for you and one for Levi.
“Hanji, this cup is disgusting. Look at these stains. Get me another one.”
“Alright Mr.Grump-Pants. Just settle down~ Sorry (first), he’s a real clean freak.” And with that Hanji took the cup and left.
“So you like to clean, huh?”
“Yes. It’s a wonderful sport don’t you think?”
You eyes widened and your eyebrows raised out of confusion. “Um... D-did you just... Call cleaning a sport?”
“Of course I did. Cleaning is a sport. Or at least it should be. And it would be too if the fools who decided these kinds of things could-”
“If they could get their heads out of their asses and make it official?”
“Why yes.” The man raised an eyebrow. “Have we... Met before?”
“No, I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’d remember a guy who thinks cleaning is a sport.”
“Tch.” He folded is arms. “The name’s Levi by the way.”
“I’m (first). Nice to meet you.” You stuck your hand out for a handshake but you were met with a scowl.
“You want me to shake your hand? I don’t know where that thing has been.”
“Well jeez, thanks,” you said as you retracted your hand.
“Hey brat.”
You rolled your eyes. “I have a name you kno-”
Before you knew it, Levi had reached over, and his thumb was rubbing your cheek gently. You blush from the sudden contact. You stared into those pools of steel that were his eyes and admired his beautiful features from a much closer view, your blush growing more intense as time went on. But then he pulled away.
“You had an eyelash on your cheek.”
“Th-th-th-thanks...” you stuttered out.
“Dammit, that was embarrassing! I stuttered so much! Why’d he have to go and do that?!”
“Are you sure we haven’t met before?”
You couldn’t meet with his gaze. “Y-yeah. I’m pretty sure... Who knows, maybe we met in a past life or something?”
“Hmp. Yeah, maybe... You wanna get out of here? These idiots are too loud I can’t even here myself think.”
“O-oh sure.”
You and Levi had gotten up. He stretched his hand back for you to grab which only made you blush more. You stood there staring at his hand in silence.
“Well? I don’t have all day brat.”
“O-o-oh. Right.” You shakily grabbed his calloused hands and intertwined your fingers.
And for the rest of his life, Levi made sure that your hand never left his. Not ever again.
I hope you guys cried reading this like I did while writing this lol
